Lakes In Wayanad

Wayanad is blessed with a number of beautiful lakes, which are surrounded by dense green forests. Banks of these freshwater lakes are unique site seeing locations and attract thousands of tourists every year.
Pookode Lake
Picturesque surroundings and easy access are draw cards that attract large numbers of visitors. The natural fresh water pool is around 9 hectares and nicely perched among hills at a height of 2100 meters above sea level. There is a small aquarium by the side of the lake.
Have a walk around the lake, get into one of the boats or for extra fun, you can climb on an elephant or horse and tour around.

Heart Lake or Hridaya Saras
This amazingly beautiful heart shaped lake is located on the way to Chembara Peak. This wonderful gift of nature is located at a height of 4500 feet. The lake is considered as one of the nine love symbol articles seen on earth. The  water in the lake is pure and clear like crystal. The lake water has a lukewarm temperature even if the surrounding enviornment is cold.
The lake covers an area of 1827 square meters.


Karalad Lake
Karalad Lake is the second largest freshwater lake in Kerala. The lake is spread over an area of 7 acres. This lake is surrounded by thickly grown Bamboo grooves. The environment is quite calm and unpolluted. Boating in the lake is one of the major attractions here, and there are also steep trekking tracks near the lake for adventurous tourists.


Karapuzha Lake
This is yet another location in emerald and sapphire, to spend an afternoon or to stop by for a couple of hours. The earth dam is similar to Banasura Dam, only smaller in size. Magnificent views satisfy any desire to sit and relax.Karapuzha dam is located at South Muttil, about 6 kilometers off State Highway 212 (Kozhikode – Mysore Highway).


Banasura Sagar Lake and Dam

Banasura Sagar lake is one of the top tourist spots in Wayanad. The dam in the lake  is a whopping 1 kilomter in length. That too made of mud and rocks.This place is a sweet spot of huge hills with a reservoir in the middle. The views are refreshing, to say the least. A slow walk along the dam is a pleasure, not to be missed, there is room for more adventure as the Banasura hill is one of the majestic trekking spots in Wayanad.
