Rain Forest In Wayanad
Rainforests cover about 6 % of the Earth's
surface and about 40% to 75% of all biotic species, including many exotic and
beautiful flowers on the planet are aboriginal to these forests. Scientists
consider that there may be millions of plants, insects and micro organisms yet to
discover in tropical rainforests.
Wayanad , the evergreen forests is the most
species rich eco region with eighty percent of the flowering plant species of
the entire mountain range found here. The name Wayanad , translates to the land
of paddy, visitors will stretches of paddy cultivation interspersed amidst the
dense forest. The dense, mysterious, magical rainforests are the earth's oldest
living ecosystems that produce about a third of the planet's oxygen.

and moist climate, high rainfall and variety of microclimates brought about by
differences in exposure supports lush
and diverse forests.
Annual rain
fall in these high rain fall areas ranges from 3,000 to 4,000 mm. High
velocity winds are common during the south west monsoon and dry winds blow in
March–April. High altitude regions experience severe cold. This place
experiences a high relative humidity which goes even up to 95 per cent during
the south west monsoon period.
Generally, the
year is classified into four seasons, namely, cold weather, hot weather, south
west monsoon and north east monsoon.
Flora: Moist
deciduous forest consists of Maruthi, Karimaruthi, Rosewood, Venteak, Vengal, Chadachi,
Mazhukanjiram, Bamboos, while the
semi-evergreen patches comprises veteria indica, lagerstroemia, lanceolata,
termianalia paniculata.
Fauna: Elephants,
tigers, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, monkeys, wild dogs, bisons, deer,
bears, monitor lizards and a variety of snakes are seen.
Avian-Fauna: Peacocks,
babblers, cuckoos, owls, woodpeckers, jungle fowls are a few of the various
